NORTHERN CHESAPEAKE BAY – RESULTS

NORTHERN CHESAPEAKE BAY – RESULTS

The 2022 New Jersey Bass Federation tournament season started off with a bang at the May 1 Northern Chesapeake Bay event.

With excellent weather (at least until the weigh-in), the anglers that found them absolutely smashed them!  This included two bags in the Boater Division over 20 pounds!

Winning the Boater Division with an amazing 21.93 pounds was Mike McMahon.  McMahon anchored his limit with a 5.36 pound brute! Coming in a close second was Russell Awad.  Awad also cracked 20 pounds, with his best five going 20.80 pounds, including a 5.17 pound largemouth.  Third place went to Rob Laufenberg.  Laufenberg was one fish short of  limit, but his four fish weighed 17.64 pounds.  His weight included the Boater Division lunker winner, a 6.37 pound behemoth of a largemouth.

The Co-Angler Division found the going a bit more difficult, as only one angler weighed in the three-fish co-angler limit.  That angler, Josh Escobar, was fishing for the first time with the New Jersey Bass Federation and wound up winning by nearly two pounds over his nearest competitor.  Next was Chris Miller who parlayed one big bite, a 5.88 pounder, into both second place and the Co-Angler Division prize.  Third place went to Joe Venuto with two fish weighing 4.29 pounds, including the only smallmouth of the event.

2022 OPEN BUDDY EVENT RESULTS – April 10, 2022, Lake Hopatcong

2022 OPEN BUDDY EVENT RESULTS – April 10, 2022, Lake Hopatcong

Ahh, to be a weatherman.  No one had predicted the weather that awaited the 16 intrepid teams that showed up for the New Jersey Bass Federation’s April 10, 2022 open buddy event at Lake Hopatcong.

The only thing more unpleasant than the 15-20 all-day sustained winds, was the 45-degree temperatures, with on-and-off all-day snow showers.  To make matters more difficult, the entire lake was “no wake” since it had risen 15 inches in the past 7 days and was above flood height.  Regardless, some teams unlocked the secret and had success.

The winners of the event was the team of Caleb Martin and Dan Goykhman.  That team posted an impressive five-fish limit weighing  13.40 pounds.  This team also had the lunker winning 4.65 largemouth.

Second place was taken by the team of Frank Appaluccio and Joe Zapf.  That team also had a five-fish limit, totaling 12.03 pounds.  Third place went to the team of Mike Keller and Wally Peer with three chunky fish weighing 10.42 pounds.

These three teams received cash prizes for their efforts, as well as an additional cash prize for the lunker.

Thanks to all those who braved the bone-chilling elements.  Also, special thanks to Keitech and Mike Czaplinski who donated two $50 Keitech gift cards for the fourth place team.
